A Private Residence with the Atmosphere of a Boutique Hotel

Architectural design of a classical-style private residence with a swimming pool. Piglova Architects
The client envisioned a classical-style residence with the atmosphere of an elegant boutique hotel. Our challenge was to combine this sense of retreat and escape from everyday life with the warmth, comfort, and functionality of a permanent family home.
Located outside the city and surrounded by nature, the house offers a peaceful retreat. The tranquility, greenery, and slower pace of countryside living reinforce the intimate atmosphere of a boutique hotel that the clients wished to create. A private courtyard with a swimming pool and summer kitchen enhances this experience, offering a place to unwind and spend more time outdoors.

Spatial Planning and Architectural Design

The site's steep slope became the starting point for the architectural and spatial design of the house. The ground floor is arranged on two levels that follow the natural terrain: spaces requiring higher ceilings are positioned lower down the slope, while rooms with lower ceiling heights occupy the upper level. The ceiling structure above the second floor remains at a consistent elevation.
The shape of the plot and its location at the end of a cul-de-sac also influenced the architectural composition. Part of the site accommodates a vehicle turning area, whose central axis aligns with the main entrance. This arrangement emphasizes the entrance and establishes it as the main focal point when approaching the residence.

The house includes six bedrooms, including a guest bedroom and a master suite, a spacious living room with a dining area, a main kitchen and a secondary kitchen, a gym, and utility spaces. All family bedrooms are located on the upper floor, while the guest bedroom is situated on the ground floor. Accommodating the parents' bedroom and the four children's bedrooms on the same floor was one of the clients' key requirements.

Facade Design

The facades are finished in light-colored render with a warm tone. Their classical character is defined by prominent cornices, decorative window surrounds, and the rhythm of tall windows. Horizontal architectural elements balance the vertical proportions of the openings, while dark window frames and graphite-colored roofing emphasize the light volume of the house.
The main entrance is accentuated by a portico topped with a balcony. The arched windows of the attic floor extend the architectural composition into the roof level. On the courtyard side, tall windows and generous terraces connect the interior spaces with the surrounding landscape.

Swimming Pool, Summer Kitchen, and Garage

The house divides the plot into an entrance area and a private courtyard. The garage is located near the driveway and connected to the main house by a covered walkway, allowing residents to move from their car into the living spaces without being exposed to the weather.
On the courtyard side, a terrace adjoins the house, with wide staircases descending towards the swimming pool positioned further down the slope. Its elongated shape reinforces the longitudinal composition of the residence.
The summer kitchen pavilion, which includes an outdoor dining area, is positioned along the central axis of the swimming pool. Together, they form a symmetrical composition that emphasizes the classical character of the architecture.
Terraces at different elevations connect the house, swimming pool, and summer kitchen, gradually revealing the spatial composition of the private courtyard as one descends through the landscape.
