We chose a calm two-tier composition: below — architectural concrete as a solid, tactile base; above — a light screen of vertical slats that works with light and views.
The building is located within the protection zone of the federal archaeological heritage site “Omsk Settlement”, next to the natural area “Ptichya Gavan” (“Bird Haven”). The architectural solutions were developed with respect to archaeological studies and preservation requirements for the site.
Space-planning solutions
The building is conceived as a low pavilion with an emphasis on horizontality and clean lines. The entrance is accentuated by a recess, and the façades form a calm urban frontage. The roof monitors (rooflights) are oriented towards the city centre, enhancing natural lighting and creating a distinctive silhouette.
Façades
The two-tier façade composition creates an expressive contrast. The ground floor is clad with architectural concrete panels — deliberately more “earthy” and stable, forming a solid base. Above it sits a light, “drawn” volume. The upper tier is formed by an even row of vertical slats. The continuous rhythm of the slats creates a unified façade texture and a monolithic volume. The scale of the slats emphasises the length of the building, ensuring a coherent perception of the volume, privacy and solar protection. The lower tier consists of smooth, large-format architectural concrete panels. Full-height glazed portals open up the public interiors, and the entrance — recessed into the volume — forms a welcoming street frontage.
Masterplan and landscaping
There are three buildings on the site: the cultural and entertainment centre, a business complex, and an existing dormitory building to be refurbished. The site has three vehicular entrances. The cultural and entertainment centre has two main entrances from the end façades. In front of the main entrances there are public plazas with tree planting and waiting areas; service and loading zones are placed on the “quiet” façades, without intersecting pedestrian routes.
