Façade design of the hotel: creating the architectural image of the building

Residential complex project — Piglova Architects
We needed to break up a monotonous façade rhythm, so we introduced portals, textured panels and accent inserts. The combination of brick, fibre-concrete and metal composite panels forms a calm, durable façade without changing the structural system.

The building is located within the protection zone of the federal archaeological heritage site “Omsk Settlement”, next to the natural area “Bird Harbour”. The architectural solutions were developed with regard to archaeological studies and the requirements for preserving the site.

Space-planning solutions

The hotel is a three-section, 8-storey building and forms a courtyard with a children’s playground.

Façade design

For this complex our bureau was responsible for the architectural façade solution. Structural changes were not possible — we worked strictly within the finishing layer.
We rebuilt the appearance of the building through the palette and articulation of the cladding: fibre-concrete panels (ribbed and plain), brick, and metal composite panels. This combination made it possible to give the façade depth and rhythm, break up the uniformity of typical windows and carefully emphasise the scale without altering the structural scheme.

Masterplan and landscaping

There are three buildings on the site: the cultural and entertainment centre, the business complex, and an existing dormitory building to be refurbished. The site has three vehicle entrances.
The complex includes landscaped public areas: a children’s playground, an active recreation zone with table tennis, and quiet seating areas with benches, shade planting and greenery.
The intimate courtyard area is designed like an “amphitheatre”: the perimeter is formed by long timber bench-edges — convenient for watching children and at the same time protecting the play area from driveways and parking. Seamless EPDM rubber surfacing in a warm palette, drainage and gentle slopes provide safety and easy maintenance.
